The new research building for climate-adapted crop development (VITA) is part of the expansion of the Hochschule Geisenheim University (HGU) campus in the western area of the campus. The building is used exclusively for research and development purposes and includes laboratory and office space for around 30 scientists as well as a training area. With external dimensions of 44.45 m x 24.17 m, the new building meets high energy efficiency requirements and was designed as a sustainable building.

The building is planned as a reinforced concrete skeleton and solid construction, with the load-bearing façade supports and interior walls made of reinforced concrete. The foundation is a load-bearing floor slab made of 60 cm thick reinforced concrete with insulation on the underside. The new building has a full basement. The reinforced concrete ceiling slabs are 25 to 35 cm thick, depending on requirements. The concrete surfaces of the walls and ceilings meet high design standards and comply with exposed concrete class SB3.
